Material Fee: $15, paid in cash during class. (Includes 1 skein Patons 100% wool yarn and 1 set of bamboo #7 circular knitting needles. It's a deal - we got it on sale!)

(In lieu of paying the materials fee you may choose to bring your own #7 needles and skein of worsted weight yarn. Wool is highly recommended for this beginner's class.)

Class Fee: $30.00

Class Description: A small class designed for beginning knitters (no previous knowledge or experience necessary!) to become familiarized with the fundamentals of knitting. Taught by a certified and experienced Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, you're sure to come away with a basic understanding of the most fundamental concepts of knitting, as well as the ability to follow simple instructions in order to create a wearable accessory.

Class Objectives: By the end of the class, you'll have the ability to: cast on; knit (and purl, time permitting); bind off; recognize and interpret simple abbreviations of knitting terms; and successfully interpret & follow simple instructions for a headband.

About the Instructor: Jaclyn Beckner is a Maryland-certified Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher, and has been working in education since 2006. She's taught in various counties in Maryland, and is currently an adjunct professor in Shepherd University's FACS department. Jaclyn learned to knit when she was in high school, and over the past 17 years has taught knitting classes professionally & privately, has started designing and selling her own patterns, and her knitting even won a blue ribbon at the Maryland State Fair this past fall. She enjoys teaching others how to take what appears to be nothing more than sticks and string and create their own work of art.

Fluid Acrylics Pour Painting
When: Saturday March 9, 2019, 1-4pm

Class Fee: $ 60
Class Description: Have you ever wanted to try your hand at art but worried that you had no artistic ability? Heard of fluid art and wondered what the craze is all about? Interested in doing something creative with your friends? If you said yes, you will LOVE this introductory class on Fluid Acrylics!

Class Objectives: You will create two paintings, one 8”x8” and one 12”x12” and learn at least 3 techniques: flip cup, flip and drag, and tree ring pour. You will also learn about types of paint, pouring mediums, varnish and epoxy resin, embellishing, and other ways to enhance your art, with examples provided in class. All supplies will be provided- paint, pouring medium, cups, stirring sticks, canvases, latex-free gloves, aprons, etc.

Notes:

Wear old clothes - this art form can be messy! Aprons will be provided but accidents can happen.

Wear comfortable shoes – you will be standing most of the time.

In this art form, the paint is runny so the art must be left in the studio for at least 3 days before you can take it home. All art must be picked up by 3 pm on 3/17/2019.

About the instructor: Karen Durishin from Waterfall Acrylics is a multiple award winning fluid acrylic artist who has mastered this art form since early 2016. Her work has been shown in northern Virginia juried art galleries and she currently has paintings on display at the Rose Gallery in Reston.
